Chronic pain affects millions of people every year, and it can make work, family, recreation, and other activities more challenging or impossible for some. We offer acupuncture as a treatment option for chronic pain.
Acupuncture encourages your body to promote its own healing process and improve function in treated areas. Studies have shown that acupuncture is an effective treatment for chronic pain, and it’s more effective than no treatment or simulated treatment for several chronic pain conditions, such as:
Best of all, acupuncture doesn’t involve any pain medications, which can involve serious side effects.

You’ll visit our office to receive your acupuncture treatments. You may see improvements in your symptoms right away, or you may need a few treatments before you notice any changes. Occasionally, patients note that their symptoms get worse for a few days before improving.
Avoid vigorous exercise or activities on the day of your acupuncture treatment. You can resume your normal activities the next day.
You may notice several changes in a variety of regular bodily processes after an acupuncture treatment, such as:
You shouldn’t be concerned about these changes if they appear. They are an indication that your acupuncture is beginning to work. As time goes on, you may see a gradual return of your symptoms, which is also normal. With continued acupuncture therapy, you may experience longer symptom relief after treatments.
Keep track of all your responses to acupuncture treatments, and report any changes to your doctor. We may need to modify your treatment based on your responses.
Talk to your doctor for more information about receiving a referral for acupuncture, or call us at 617-243-6142 to request an appointment.
