Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is a common treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, a sleep disorder that involves a partial closure of your throat because the muscles in your throat relax too much while you sleep. When this happens, you don’t get enough oxygen, which leads to snoring, trouble breathing, and lack of restful sleep.
CPAP therapy involves the use of a CPAP machine, which includes a hose that continuously pumps air into your lungs while you sleep. This hose is connected to a mask that fits over your mouth, nose, or both. The key to effective CPAP therapy is having a mask that fits you properly.
