ANAND PRABHAKAR, MD, MBA, NAMED CHAIR OF RADIOLOGY AT NEWTON-WELLESLEY HOSPITAL
NEWTON, Mass. (December 7, 2018) – Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is pleased to announce that Anand Prabhakar, MD, MBA, has been named Chair of Radiology, effective January 1, 2019.
“Dr. Prabhakar’s strong clinical expertise, vision for quality assurance and innovation in radiology services, and ability to work collaboratively in a large integrated health care system make him the ideal individual for this role,” said Dr. Michael R. Jaff, President, Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
Dr. Prabhakar joins NWH having held positions as a staff radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in the Division of Emergency Radiology and as Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Prabhakar also served as Associate Medical Director of Radiology at Nantucket Cottage Hospital and Associate Director of the Center for Research in Emergency Department Operations at MGH. Prior to that, Dr. Prabhakar was a staff radiologist in private practice in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Prabhakar has a rich and in-depth understanding of round-the-clock imaging operations and interventional radiology procedures. “His familiarity with the increasingly complex patients being seen at Newton-Wellesley make him uniquely prepared to serve as Chair,” added Dr. Jaff.
Dr. Prabhakar will lead a department that performs over 200,000 exams per year including cutting edge CT, MRI, and Ultrasound. The NWH Radiology department plays a key role on the patient care team, frequently collaborating with other clinicians to analyze and interpret all findings to determine the best possible treatment options for each patient.
Dr. Prabhakar received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine and fellowships in Abdominal Imaging and Interventional Radiology at MGH, Harvard Medical School.
Newton-Wellesley Hospital is a full system member of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. (PHCS), a nonprofit organization that includes acute care hospitals Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals, and The North Shore Medical Center.
