Summer High School Volunteer Program

How do I become a volunteer?

Following a successful Summer 2024 with over 100 high school student volunteers, we look forward to welcoming more high school student volunteers in Summer 2025.

The 2025 Summer Volunteer Program will run from late June to mid August; specific dates will be announced in the new year. NOTE: Applicants for the High School Volunteer Program must be 15 years old at the time of application.

Acceptance into the volunteer program is contingent on satisfactory results of the interview, occupational health screening, criminal history check (CORI), and other information provided by the volunteer.

• Students must commit to volunteering for 7 out of the 8 weeks. One week off is allowed during the program. We are unfortunately unable to accommodate any exceptions to this requirement.
   
• In-person volunteer placement
  • Students will be assigned to one clinical and one non-clinical assignment or two non-clinical assignments.
  • 2 shifts per week. The total time requirement is approximately 4-8 hours per week
     

• Attendance required for at least 3 of the 6 career explorations/medical innovation sessions (to be held in a hybrid model)
  • Students can pick any three that interest them or work best with their schedule.  Students are welcome to attend more than 3 if they would like. There will be a total of 6 sessions held.

Requirements for the summer program:

• Completion of all on-boarding requirements.
• Attendance at a mandatory Welcome Session prior to program start.
• A summer celebration event will take place near the end of the program.

How To Apply for the Summer Program:     

We are not accepting applications at this time. We will update this section once the dates are set for summer 2025.

• Complete an NWH Volunteer Application
  • Students will also need to submit a ‘Minor Authorization to Volunteer’ form. This will be uploaded into the application when applying online.
• Once your application has been submitted, call our Volunteer Office at 617-243-6048 to schedule a volunteer interview. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30  a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Previous applicants do not need to reapply; however, you will need to call the Volunteer Office to schedule an interview. Please state that you are a previous volunteer / applicant when you call so that we can verify we have an application on file for you.
    • Previous applicants will need to submit an updated Authorization to Volunteer Form signed by a parent or guardian to the Volunteer Office prior to their interview.
• Interviews can be scheduled after an application has been submitted by calling the Volunteer Office at 617-243-6048 between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. 
• Interviews will be conducted on a first come first serve basis.  Placement in the program will continue until all assignments are filled.  We anticipate that this program will fill quickly, so please call the office to schedule your interview as soon as possible once the application window opens.
• Students will receive two prompt questions ahead of the interview.  These will be included in the interview discussion and do not require are any formal preparation.  They are simply to add to the conversation and will allow us to get to know you better.
• Interviews take place via Zoom and are approximately 30 minutes long. During the interview we will talk about your interest in volunteering, availability for volunteering, and positions that are currently open. Applicants will receive the Zoom link at least 48 hours before their interview.
• Students who are accepted to the volunteer program will need to show a government issued ID (license, passport, or school ID WITH birth certificate) at the end of the interview.
• Students who are accepted into the program will need to provide documentation of the following vaccinations: MMR, Varicella, current Flu Shot, Covid-19. Students will also need to complete a TB Spot test within 90 days of their start date.
