Our expert, compassionate women’s health doctors can offer you four main types of hysterectomies to treat conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, and gynecologic cancer.
Total Hysterectomy Removal of the uterus and cervix.
Subtotal/Supracervical Hysterectomy Removal of the body of the uterus, leaving the cervix intact.
Total Hysterectomy and Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy Hysterectomy with the removal of the cervix and both ovaries and tubes.
Subtotal Hysterectomy and Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy Hysterectomy leaving the cervix intact with the removal of both ovaries and tubes.
A hysterectomy can be performed with or without removing the ovaries. If a woman has not yet gone through menopause when she has a hysterectomy and leaves the ovaries in place, she will NOT need hormone replacement or become menopausal due to the surgery.
