The following are general recommendations for how to prepare for an interventional radiology procedure. Your referring doctor and the interventional radiology team may also give you recommendations that are specific to you and your situation.

Do not eat any food for six hours before your interventional radiology procedure. You may drink the following liquids up to two hours before the start of your procedure:

You should stop taking anticoagulant medications five days before your procedure unless your referring doctor advises you otherwise.
If you take insulin, follow these guidelines based on the time of your interventional radiology procedure:
ome interventional radiology procedures can take as little as an hour, while others can be longer. You will need to recover after your procedure for at least four to six hours. Some patients might need to stay with us in the hospital overnight. You will need to arrange a ride home after your recovery period.
Your referring doctor will receive a written report with the results from your interventional radiology procedure. You should plan to discuss the results with him or her, along with any next steps your doctor may recommend as part of your ongoing care.
